First, President Trump says he’s for background checks for gun purchases, then he dials back his position (after meeting with the National Rifle Association) by stressing that mental illness should be the focus for reducing gun violence. Then Trump says he’s for increasing tariffs on China, seems to express reservations about doing so at the Group of Seven summit, only to then have aides explain that he actually wants to place even larger tariffs on the world’s most populous country. Frankly, all of this back-and-forth posturing by our Tweeter in Chief is giving me a bad case of political whiplash and wondering about his mental stability.
