The Aug. 12 letter “Just Curious” attempted to set forth a morally compelling case as the writer stated, “I know why I’m voting for Donald Trump in 2020.”
For starters, the letter states “he is against infanticide.” Infanticide is defined as “killing an infant after birth and before the age of 1 year.” But polemics aside, let’s assume the writer meant that Mr. Trump is anti-choice.
But that alone is not a compelling reason to vote for a candidate, as not every anti-choice person is worthy of one’s vote. Adolf Hitler was also anti-choice, for example.
In what universe does Mr. Trump protect “free speech for all,” as the letter argues? He calls our free press “the enemy of the people,” thus degrading the First Amendment.
As another person of faith, I could never vote for a president who continuously lies about virtually everything. Jesus said (John 8:44): “When he lies, it is consistent with his character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” This almost sounds like prophecy, but Jesus was referring to the devil.
Lies have always been an essential tool, a weapon that powerful authorities use to oppress those unfortunate enough to be governed by them, in this case the voters.
Hopefully, I’ve satisfied some of the letter writer’s curiosity.
