Ad AstraYesterday evening, Katherine and I watched Ad Astra (2019) at a local theater. It stars the now middle-aged (55) Brad Pitt as an astronaut. I've seen Pitt in at least three movies (including A River Runs Through It and Legends of the Fall) and liked him in all of them. (The spy movie with Robert Redford was confusing, but maybe I was just tired when I watched it.) Ad Astra has action scenes (such as a wild "car" chase on the moon), and even a bit of horror (the aggressive primates on the mayday ship), but it's a thoughtful movie as well, with Pitt struggling to reconnect with (and perhaps exceed the accomplishments of) his estranged father. I recommend the movie to anyone who likes serious adult fare. Most movies these days seem to be produced for children or adult fantasists.

Here is the trailer.
