To my friends of all political persuasions: With regard to President Donald Trump’s words while he was making an official call from the Oval Office to another country’s president seeking “dirt” on a political rival, there is a lot to consider. My primary concern involves precedent.

I ask my Republican friends to assess whether they would be comfortable with a future Democratic president making a similar call. If this is acceptable for a President Donald Trump, would it also be acceptable for a President Elizabeth Warren or President Amy Klobuchar?

To my mind, even if the House determination is not to impeach, this needs to be addressed in a “reprimand” or “censure” or “sense of the House” resolution. Opposition research seems to be an appropriate campaign staff activity. It is not to be done by the president while acting in his official presidential capacity.

Note from KBJ: Thank God for Donald Trump, Shirley. He's getting to the bottom of Joe Biden's corruption.
