Regarding “Trump conspiracy theory debunked” (Insight, Dec. 15): If anyone thinks that President Trump’s attempts to discredit federal authorities with his baseless deep state conspiracy theory have ended simply because the Justice Department’s inspector general found no malfeasance at the root of an FBI investigation into Russian interference in our 2016 presidential election, then think twice. Trump built his political reputation on a ridiculous birther conspiracy that questioned the citizenship of former President Barack Obama (and the entire legitimacy of his presidency) for over five years.

He also made a bizarre accusation that the father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was somehow involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, yet another baseless conspiracy theory. And let’s not forget Trump’s claim that millions of people voted illegally in the 2016 election and cost him the popular vote, yet another unproven connivance. When historians look back at this soon-to-be-impeached 45th president, they will surely make note of the thousands of lies that he told and of his self-serving conspiracy theories that were debunked.
