Bernie made a huge mistake by labeling himself Democratic Socialist. Even if he means “the Swedish kind.” No country in Western Europe uses the term Socialist/ism. Instead they say: SOCIAL DEMOCRATS. Huge difference! Bernie did not realize that the term Socialist/ism will never work in a capitalist country. Bernie himself is not a Socialist, because government programs do not make Socialism. Now the Socialist cat is out of the bag, and it can never be put back in.
The last time Western Europe used the term Socialism was when Hitler was in power (Nazionalsozialismus, National Socialism). The multi party system in Europe has SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTIES, among others. Bernie could have said: “I am fighting for social justice” or something to that effect, and the term Socialist/ism would never even have come up once. Now a vote for Bernie is likely going to be a vote for Trump.
