It is disingenuous and misleading for Amy Coney Barrett to promise to “apply the law as written.” Cases don’t make it to the Supreme Court when the written law is clear. The Supreme Court only considers those cases where the written law does not unambiguously answer the question before the court.

Note from KBJ: Good try, Nelson. It doesn't follow from the fact that language isn't perfectly clear that it's perfectly unclear. Judge Barrett interprets the law in light of the original understanding of the words used. She doesn't assign just any meaning to the words.
