In a recent hearing on Judge Amy Coney Barrett, she was asked what seemed like a simple question: Do you believe the president has the legal authority to unilaterally delay an election?
Any American who respects the Constitution must immediately answer with an emphatic, “No!”
Instead, she hemmed and hawed, and said she would have to “consult” and “hear arguments.”
This is why she was nominated, rather than the usual hoopla over abortion and health care. She was nominated because she will support unlimited executive power, regardless of the Constitution.
Donald Trump, and the party he leads, are willing to overturn the will of the voters to hold onto power. He wants, and has appointed, judges he thinks will support him.
Judge Barrett will no doubt be confirmed by Mitch McConnell’s sock puppet Senate. But everyone who hasn’t yet voted has to understand that this year, a vote for any Republican is a vote to overturn the republic. They need to be defeated so badly that there is no chance that there can be any challenge. Then maybe the GOP, a once-respected institution, can come back to its senses.
