I realize that the Constitution has only three requirements to be president of the United States—natural born citizenship, 35 years of age, and 14 years as a resident of the United States. That can’t easily be changed.
However, the two major political parties could add one more. If agreed, they could both stipulate that any candidate for a federal political office under their name be granted, at a minimum, a secret security clearance from the Department of Defense. I was a military contractor for 16 years and I had to maintain a security clearance the entire time. I can assure you Donald Trump, and no member of his family, would have ever been able to obtain one.
Such an obvious and simple requirement would have saved the country from the disaster we have suffered through for the last four years.
