Here is a scene from today's ride. Click to enlarge. I bought my first bike on 9 August 1981, so today's ride completes my 41st year abike. In that time, I have pedaled 129,698.4 miles. That's an average of 3,163.3 miles per year, 8.66 miles per day (counting leap days), and 60.62 miles per week. According to Plato, Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living. I would add that a life without regular, vigorous physical exertion is pretty damn poor.
Addendum: I've ridden the equivalent of 5.2 times around the Earth, at the equator.
Addendum 2: I was just reading my blog post of 9 August 2012, which is 10 years ago today. In the past 10 years, I have pedaled 59,154 miles. That's an average of 5,915.4 miles per year, 16.19 miles per day (counting leap days), and 113.36 miles per week.
