Keith Burgess-Jackson, J.D., Ph.D.

This morning, at 8:00, I began my 34th year at the University of Texas at Arlington. It'll be my final year. I've announced my retirement as of May 2023. My career as a teacher began in August 1983, when I started graduate school at the University of Arizona. I was a teaching assistant (for Jules Coleman) in Logic. I've been teaching, therefore, for 39 years. It'll be 40 when I'm done. Today's two courses were Logic (a lower-level course) and Social and Political Philosophy (an upper-level course). I teach only undergraduates. The Logic course is my 32nd. The Social and Political Philosophy course is my ninth. I enjoy teaching, so I'll be sad when it's all over. What I won't miss is service work, i.e., serving on committees. That is by far the worst part of my job. I love research and writing; I love teaching; I hate service work. I have never served on a committee that did anything either important or necessary. It is a grand waste of time, talent, and energy.
