Here (click to enlarge) is a screen shot from early in today's World Championship Road Race, in Bergen, Norway. Slovakian cyclist Peter Sagan becomes the first person to win three consecutive Men's World Championship Road Races. Here are the final four kilometers of the 267.5-kilometer (166.2-mile) race, which took 6:28:11 to complete. That's an average speed of 25.69 miles per hour.

  • Frankly, Donald Trump is an embarrassment to the United States. He was definitely in campaign mode giving his speech at the United Nations, being his normal belligerent, ignorant, bullying self. I find myself agreeing with the Iranian president who said in part that Mr. Trump is “ignorant, absurd and hateful,” and he referred to Mr. Trump as a “rogue newcomer to international politics.” What an apt description of this man-child who, against all odds, occupies the Oval Office.

America first? Ha! What a joke! He doesn’t take care of the American people; he couldn’t care less about the American people. How does threatening to annihilate North Korea and threatening to pull out of the Iranian nuclear deal take care of the American people’s security? How does decimating the Affordable Care Act take care of the American people’s health? How does pulling out of the Paris climate accord take care of the American people’s environment? How does getting rid of banking regulations safeguard the American people’s investments? How are tax cuts for the rich taking care of the American people? How is suppressing the vote taking care of the American people? This depressing list goes on and on.

I keep hoping, in vain, that the Republicans in Congress will wake up and start pushing back. The time for political expediency is over. Mr. Trump has already done so much harm to the American people. The time for fighting for the heart and soul of America is now. Mr. Trump does not know what this means. How can he? He has no heart, no soul; no empathy, no compassion. One can only hope that the American people start staring the cold hard facts in the face, i.e., that Mr. Trump is harmful to the American people and should be removed from office, period.

  • The fate of the National Football League, and of football generally, will be determined not by the owners, players, television networks, or politicians (such as President Trump), but by the fans. I, personally, am done with the NFL. I wasn't watching much of it anyway (mostly the Dallas Cowboys), but now I won't watch any of it. If Major League Baseball players start disrespecting the flag (and therefore this country and its people), I'll be done with baseball as well. I'm already close to eliminating baseball from my life, because of the instant replay, the incessant rules changes, and the insufferable pampered players. It will not be difficult to eliminate it altogether.

Addendum: Exactly. As usual, Donald Trump is five steps ahead of his critics.

  • If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend!
