  • I have lived in the U.S. for 56 years since arriving from Cuba, and have never been exposed to the iniquities, the lies, the abuse of power, and the destruction of what our country stands for since Donald Trump became president. But what he is doing now with the Dreamers protected under DACA is despicable and hateful.

This country is great because of its diversity and for the contributions that all its citizens—those who were born here, and those who became citizens by choice, not by chance—have made and are continuing to make.

Let’s not allow this semblance of a president destroy what has made this United States of America a beacon of freedom and hope.

  • On 8 September 2009, Barack Obama's approval rating was 50%. On 8 September 2017, Donald Trump's approval rating was 46%. You wouldn't know this if you watched only CNN or read only the New York Times.

  • I was flabbergasted to read Mary Ann Meloy’s Sept. 3 Perspectives piece (“The Candidate Reveals Herself”). Was she actually talking about Hillary Clinton when she stated that “Diplomats do not wallow in self-pity and personal grievance,” but “are supposed to be models of cool detachment . . . state cogent arguments . . . and make rational judgments based on facts”? As if Donald Trump could do any of those things no matter how hard he tried.

Ms. Clinton lost the election, yes, but we still don’t have the answers to how much the Russians were involved in stealing this election for Mr. Trump. Ms. Meloy should be embarrassed to try and attack Ms. Clinton while the fool in the White House continues to cry that he’s a victim of the media and to bully anyone who doesn’t agree with him.
