How much longer will the failing nytimes, with its big losses and massive unfunded liability (and non-existent sources), remain in business?

Is Oregon the Alabama of the west? It would appear so to me with the regularity that I am affronted with the "Stars 'N Bars," or, as those not raised in the south might know it, as the Confederate flag. How did a symbol exclusive to America's Southeast make its way here to the Northwest? This flag is no doubt a symbol of oppression to those of African descent in this country. After all, it was flown by the Confederate Army in efforts to keep the miseries of slavery alive during the civil war. The flag is still flown today, as an official flag of the Ku Klux Klan. With this—and the fact that Portland is the "Whitest City in America"—this banner takes on a more ominous role in this city in present times. Time and time again I see the flag displayed at homes. But more often, I see it waving with a trail of exhaust, in truck beds. Sometimes, ironically, next to the American flag. My real question though is Klansmen racism returning to Oregon? Did it ever leave?

It's time to end affirmative action. What could be more degrading to persons than assuming that they can't make it on their own? Here is a paragraph from the op-ed column to which I linked:
So why the conservative concern when it comes to affirmative action? The answer is that Asian Americans provide a convenient tool for opponents of affirmative action. By framing opposition to affirmative action as concern for Asian Americans, opponents of affirmative action can protect the existing racial hierarchy—with white people at the top—while disguising their efforts as race-neutral rather than racially motivated.
Notice the cynicism (i.e., the questioning of motives). The authors refuse to accept the stated reasons for opposition to affirmative action. Two can play this game:
So why the progressive concern when it comes to affirmative action? The answer is that affirmative action employs thousands of elite whites, thereby solidifying their wealth, power, and social status. By framing support for affirmative action as concern for African Americans, supporters of affirmative action can protect the existing racial hierarchy—with white people at the top—while disguising their efforts as benevolent rather than selfish.
See how it works?

Here are the final two kilometers of Stage 7 of the Tour of Poland. Dylan Teuns of Belgium finished fifth on the stage and won the tour by two seconds. If you like daredevils, you'll like this.
