  • Oops! I just discovered unprocessed blog comments going back to early July. I approved all of them, including many by Mark Spahn, who asked me at least twice whether something was wrong with my blog. Ordinarily, I get an e-mail when a comment comes in for approval. I got no e-mails until today. I guess I'll have to check for comments every day or so from now on.

  • To the editor:

    The French have a word for it: ennui. I can think of no better word to describe what I and many of my colleagues feel as a result of President Trump’s erratic and highly controversial actions. (“Democrats say Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting takes Russia inquiry to a 'new level,'” July 16)

    But to find out that despite his behavior, 36% of Americans still approve of him, one has to ask what action will it take for that number to decrease substantially.

    Even though a majority of Americans disapprove of his presidency, one cannot help but feel isolated and depressed by what is happening to our country and its reputation as a world leader.

    Lynn Lorenz, Los Angeles

    Note from KBJ: You should get out and about, Lynn. Americans voted for Donald Trump because

    1. they were tired of the Thug in Chief and didn't want the Thuggess in Chief (a.k.a. Felonia von Pantsuit) to replace him;
    2. they didn't like our Commander in Chief bowing to foreign leaders and apologizing for the actions of the greatest nation on earth;
    3. they wanted affordable, voluntary health care;
    4. they didn't like having their jobs shipped overseas or handed to illegal aliens; and
    5. they wanted someone to smash the dishonest media in the face.

    By the way, as of 10 July, Trump's approval rating (according to Gallup) was 39%. At the same time in his first term, Bill Clinton's approval rating was 45% and Barack Obama's (with fawning media) was 59%. (George W. Bush's was 57%.) Obama's approval rating later fell to 40%. Suck it up. Your president until 20 January 2025 is Donald J. Trump.
