  • As I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together and do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!

  • When I was a child I was taught the importance of telling the truth. Infractions at school and home were met with punishment. Telling the truth was a center piece of religious training. People of differing positions would argue over issues, but when verifiable points were presented, they were treated with respect. According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Every violation of truth is a stab at the health of human society."

Several decades later, the veneration of truth seems to have evaporated. Lying now has become so commonplace, making the uninitiated vulnerable.

Challengers of untruthful positions are described as disloyal or outside agitators. The most cynical approach, chilling at times, is for the truth denier to present an alternative set of data, made up without verification, and labeled as "alternative facts."

Entire societies, organizations, spin masters, and unscrupulous individuals spend time creating versions of events, unconcerned of the pernicious effects of such falsification. Most distressing is the tepid response to such alternative reality by truth abiders, thus reinforcing a long cycle of distortion and fantasy. The impact on society is a slow corrosive effect, with lying the norm, making the victim of the lie entrapped. Lying as the new norm has to be vigorously confronted. Our children must learn about the beauty of truth.

    Michel Hersen, Northwest Portland

Note from KBJ: Barack Hussein Obama lied repeatedly during his presidency and was never taken to task for it by the media. Remember "If you want to keep your doctor, you can keep your doctor" and "If you want to keep your health-care plan, you can keep your health-care plan"? Remember Jonathan Gruber? Remember Susan Rice? Remember Hillary Clinton? Remember Ben Rhodes? I could go on, but I've made my point. To leftists, the end justifies the means.

  • Most politicians would have gone to a meeting like the one Don jr attended in order to get info on an opponent. That's politics!
