  • Soren Kierkegaard, the famous Danish philosopher, wrote, “People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.”

In light of the many protests concerning executive actions and policies from President Donald Trump and his new administration, it is becoming obvious that the liberal left has turned to name-calling and hate-speech because it is losing the battle of rational thought and debate.

They should stop the emotional outbursts and focus on reasonable dialogue or they will continue to further diminish their voting base and alienate even more thoughtful, hard-working American citizens. Take time to think first before speaking, whining or crying.

  • ScienceI think I linked to this blog post the other day, but I have a few more comments to make. Could there be any greater proof of the politicization of science than this blog post? The author is so partisan that he can't think straight. You can almost see the spittle coming out of his mouth as he talks. Notice how he frames the issue: Scientists are disinterested pursuers of truth. All they care about is ascertaining the facts. No amount of money could sway them; no emotions operate on them; they care not a whit about their careers, fame, fortune, or status. They experience no professional jealousies or envies; they have no axes to grind; they have no ulterior motives and no political agenda.

By contrast, Donald Trump and his supporters are unconcerned with how things are. Trump's aim is to distort the truth for political advantage. He will lie, cheat, steal, and perhaps even kill to promote himself and to acquire and secure political power. Science is as nothing to him, and he would gladly withdraw funding from scientific projects if he could get away with it. Trump is a clear and present danger not only to science but to democracy. The sooner he is removed from office, the better.

If you have any doubts about the politicization of science, the fact that this vile screed was published in a reputable (no longer!) scientific periodical should dissipate them. The American people are coming to realize that science is no longer concerned (if it ever was) with getting things right; it is concerned with setting things right. It is an arm of the Democrat Party, deeply committed to progressive causes, dependent on tax monies and political patronage, and condescending to the point of being arrogant.
