  • To the editor:

Another day, another article fact checking Trump. I’m all for fact checking, especially on important issues (which these weren’t; they were trivial), but I wonder why the fact checking urgency now.

I don’t recall any such angst when Obama, arguably the biggest liar ever to occupy the White House, needed the checking.

I was thinking this is just another example of media bias, but then it occurred to me: Had you applied such zeal to Obama, you would have risked running out of space in the paper. Clearly it was a merely practical decision.

    Michael Lawler, Los Angeles

Note from KBJ: There's a simple reason why leftists cry "liar!" at every turn. They're projecting. Their own view is that lying is justified if it advances the progressive cause. ("The end justifies the means.") They assume, quite falsely, that conservatives share this view.

  • You have no idea how happy I was to read this column. Erwin Chemerinsky is a far-left ideologue (and thug) masquerading as a mild-mannered law-school dean. That Donald Trump makes him apoplectic is the best evidence yet that we who voted for Trump did the right thing. I'm especially excited about having a law-abiding Supreme Court that overrules the mistakes of the lawless.

  • President Trump’s news media strategy depends on “alternative facts” that were offered by his press secretary and top adviser on the first weekend of his presidency, instead of the real facts.

Obviously, the truth and provable facts are no longer the norm, and now we should expect the falsehoods that he so famously relied on during his campaign to continue right into the White House.

This is the stuff of third-rate dictatorships and banana republics. It has no place in our democracy, which has a high regard for truth and reporting the facts.

    AVENTURA

Note from KBJ: Because Barack Obama was such an honest man. Has it occurred to you, Betty, that "alternative facts" means either "different opinions" or "different interpretations of the facts"? Why do you put the worst possible spin on things? Would you like it if I distorted everything you say in order to make it appear that you are stupid, ignorant, or evil?

  • Here is Conrad Black's latest column. Donald Trump should treat journalists with the contempt they deserve. They did everything they could, including lie, to keep him from being elected, and now they are doing everything they can, including lie, to keep him from being successful. It won't work. As Rush Limbaugh is fond of saying, if journalists don't create you, they can't destroy you. One more thing. President Trump should call out dishonest journalists by name. Why not? They're not disinterested purveyors of information, as they profess to be; they're players. They're in the arena. You can't enter the arena and then complain when you get smashed in the mouth.

Addendum: Barack Obama got the benefit of the doubt from journalists. Donald Trump gets the detriment of the doubt. Journalists put the best spin on everything Obama said. They put the worst spin on everything Trump says. Obama was assumed to have good motives. Trump is assumed to have bad motives. That's how bias works.
