Trump and the Republicans have repeatedly told us that they support health insurance that covers preexisting conditions. Well, this week, while the country was fighting a raging pandemic, Trump and his cronies asked our Supreme Court to kill the only federal law that covers preexisting conditions.
There is no end to the cruelty that Trump is willing to impose on our citizens. We have observed helpless children separated from their parents and locked in cages; tax legislation for the ultra-rich that further disadvantaged the poor; hate-filled rhetoric designed to prejudice the country against ethnic and racial minorities; and a president’s unabashed willingness to unleash our military and justice system to enforce his cruel policies.
Unless we want to live in an autocracy that rejects notions of fundamental fairness and justice, we must remove Trump and his sycophants from office this fall. We can’t withstand four more years of this madness.

There is a rise in Coronavirus cases because our testing is so massive and so good, far bigger and better than any other country. This is great news, but even better news is that death, and the death rate, is DOWN. Also, younger people, who get better much easier and faster!

Donald Trump's approval rating is 46%. Barack Obama's approval rating at the same point of his presidency (2 July 2012) was 46%.

“It’s About Making You Kneel”

How would you rank the following three states of society?
- Equal prosperity.
- Unequal prosperity.
- Equal misery.
Most people, I suspect, rank them 1, 2, 3. The Left ranks them 1, 3, 2. The Left prefers equal misery to unequal prosperity! That explains the movement to defund the police. Leftists believe that law and order benefits white people far more than it benefits black people. Instead of bringing law and order to black communities, which is what a rational person would do, they want to take it away from white communities. Their motto is, "If not everyone can be secure, then nobody will be secure."

As COVID-19 persists, we see around us many acts of kindness and good will, in terms of caring for our neighbors and the elderly and simply keeping up the spirits of those who are beleaguered and bewildered by the current landscape. When occasion warrants, we can rise to it and often exceed what is needed, thus showing our true mettle.
But all is not so ideal. We have seen spikes in cases outside of our state, owing to individuals who declare that they do not like rules and who even abandon common sense in defiance of the coronavirus (”States walk back reopenings as cases soar,” Page A1, June 27).
Certainly we resent this pathogen, but cutting off our noses to spite our faces will not resolve the issue any more than will the president’s urging the Supreme Court to strike down the Affordable Care Act in the midst of this pandemic (”Trump asks court to end ACA,” Page A2, June 27).
Refusing to wear a face mask and pretending that all is back to normal may be a natural inclination, yet one has to be disciplined and, more to the point, empathetic if we are to return to better times.
Let us endeavor, as a nation worthy of self-respect and international respect, to meet this challenge with vigor and resolve.
