The United States dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, killing as many as 226,000 people, thus forcing Japan to surrender. Japan had no idea we were capable of inflicting such destruction and death and was totally unprepared to defend itself. Today, by comparison, we have known for months that a virus with the potential to wreck our economy and kill Americans was on its way, and our president has yet to outline any detailed health plan to seriously protect the nation. The threat is very serious, and the only response lately from the president has been to announce an extraordinary ban on travel from Europe to the United States, and called for a series of stimulus measures to blunt the economic side.
“We the people” are not being represented.
— John Wolaver, Glen Ellyn
Note from KBJ: You're an idiot, John. President Trump has done far more than any previous president, including the sainted Obama, to "protect the nation."

Everybody is so well unified and working so hard. It is a beautiful thing to see. They love our great Country. We will end up being stronger than ever before!

Yesterday evening, Katherine and I watched Love in the Time of Cholera (2007), which I purchased (for $2.99) on Amazon Prime. The movie is based on the 1985 novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1982. The scenery was quite beautiful. Some of the scenes were funny and some poignant. The plot was interesting and easy to understand. The acting was good. All in all, I enjoyed it.Here is the trailer.

It is now abundantly clear that President Trump has command of a very limited range of possible human responses to situations of any kind (“Trump’s virulent state of denial,” Editorial, March 13).
Basically this range is circumscribed by the characters permitted in a Tweet, or perhaps a degrading nickname blurted out in an uncontrolled fit of pique.
That’s it. There’s nothing more complex in the president’s social repertoire. That’s why Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, rather than the president himself, is negotiating the salvation of the US economy with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Meanwhile the Senate sits on its hands.
If we elect clowns to represent us, it should not surprise us to be living in a circus.

Note from KBJ: I agree that we should not elect clowns to represent us. We should, therefore, de-elect the following clowns: Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, AOC, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders.
