Re: “Barbs and jabs fly, Bloomberg roasted in rancorous Dem debate” [Feb. 20, A1]:
After watching the debate Wednesday night, I am left feeling more discouraged than ever.
As a parent/educator/counselor, I have attempted to teach about bullies. Bullying is a sign of insecurity—to put someone else down, to be cruel toward another to make yourself look better does just the opposite. It makes you look worse.
We have a president who has made his platform on bullying and falsehoods.
Wednesday, as others struck out against Mike Bloomberg and at each other, I was dismayed about those on stage.
Being smart doesn’t entitle one to be mean. Cruelty begets cruelty. It takes on a life of its own.
We must bring back our collective soul. If not, it’s not only our climate that we must worry about it. It is the destruction of humankind.
Ellen Reichman, Kirkland
Note from KBJ: Ellen Reichman thinks that defending oneself from vicious attackers is bullying. Donald Trump has been smeared, vilified, lied about, and defamed. Thank God he doesn't take it lying down!

Could somebody at @foxnews please explain to Trump hater A.B. Stoddard (zero talent!) and @TeamCavuto, that I won every one of my debates, from beginning to end. Check the polls taken immediately after the debates. The debates got me elected. Must be Fox Board Member Paul Ryan!

To the editor:
It is long past time for President Trump’s supporters to wake up and smell the scorched Earth. Their omniscient leader—who doesn’t read and spends much his days watching Fox News, tweeting or playing golf—does not trust experts. If you had plumbing problems in your home, wouldn’t you call an expert?
While I’m sure there is bloat in every government agency, “trimming” one-third of the staff at the White House’s national security team is not trimming, it is purging.
Purging a vital department of honorable, knowledgeable and dedicated public servants is irresponsible and dangerous.
If their reason for supporting our wanna-be dictator is that the economy is doing great (and they might want to delve a little further into that), how will that protect us from national security failures?
Lynn Eames, Los Angeles
Note from KBJ: President Trump is doing exactly what we elected him to do, Lynn: drain the swamp. If you don't like it, elect someone else. By the way, we don't want our president to read. We want him to lead, and he's doing so spectacularly.
