Yesterday evening, Katherine and I watched The Beast (1988), which I own on DVD. I searched for this movie for decades before finally finding it recently. (I happened upon it while watching cable television, probably while on a job interview.) The movie is about the Russian excursion into Afghanistan during the late 1970s and 1980s. A Russian tank gets lost and is pursued by tribesmen. I enjoy the movie not so much because of the fighting, but because of the moral issues it raises. It stars George Dzundza, Jason Patric, Steven Bauer, and Stephen Baldwin. Here is the trailer.

“The Trump Doctrine”

Well, he finally did it! We are now realizing our worst fears as the “deflector in chief” actually is starting a war to redirect attention away from his impending impeachment trial.
While no decent human being will mourn the death of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, this action was just another strategically useful step in this administration’s continued attempts to provoke Iran into a politically expedient war. This “mob boss” will stoop to anything to protect himself from being brought to justice, and if American lives and treasure are lost as a result, so be it. To my conservative friends who will grasp at anything to defend this “criminal in plain sight,” particularly by rubbing their hands together as their stock portfolios flourish, your leader is successfully destabilizing the Middle East and world oil prices will follow. While President Trump’s domestic, energy-producing buddies will again reap benefits and will be pocketing another windfall, I would bet other economic factors will suffer mightily. Enjoy your portfolios while you can, you’re in for a “rough ride.”

Jews are the canaries in the coal mine. When a society is sick at its core, Jews become easy scapegoats. It may start with the Jews, but it rarely ends there as history has demonstrated.
Soon, the targets of hate are blacks, gays, immigrants and minorities. We need only look at Germany in the 1930s to know this can only end badly. How, you say, can we compare with Germany? We have low unemployment, low inflation—quite the opposite of times past. Yet we have a charismatic leader who speaks a simple language and delivers powerful messages to a waiting audience of extremists on both the left and right. What we are lacking is moral leadership. An unambiguous message that our president will not tolerate an America where Jews are stabbed, shot, beaten and humiliated. That message is not forthcoming from President Donald Trump or our Republican leaders.
Do not wait for it. Remember the words of Pastor Martin Niemoller: “First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Note from KBJ: This woman is clueless and vile. Nobody—and I do mean nobody—has been more vociferous in condemning anti-Jewish violence than President Donald J. Trump. His daughter is Jewish, for God's sake!
