  • To the editor:

George Skelton’s two recent columns regarding the declining influence of the Republican Party in California note as primary reasons the steady increase in the percentage of minorities and the perception among minorities (particularly Latinos) that the GOP is xenophobic, and that this perception has been sharpened by President Trump’s policies.

Their continued support of the president’s policies was a key factor in numerous Republican lawmakers’ defeats in 2018. The failure of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) and his Republican colleagues to acknowledge wrongdoing by our president in the current impeachment hearings only strengthens the perception that GOP leaders are out of touch with the concerns of all Americans, including minorities.

It is time for the Republican Party to dump Trump and support a candidate who will unite rather than divide the country.

  • Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, AOC and the rest of the Democrats are not getting important legislation done, hence, the Do Nothing Democrats. USMCA, National Defense Authorization Act, Gun Safety, Prescription Drug Prices, & Infrastructure are dead in the water because of the Dems!

  • I urge opposition to building a border wall. Get America working again by rehiring the 800,000 public workers laid off by President Donald Trump’s insane government shutdown.

Mr. Trump fantasized a crisis from nothing. There is no invasion as he claims—none! Immigrants don’t steal American jobs as he claims. They do the jobs we reject. Immigrants do not smuggle in drugs as he claims. Drugs enter ports in shipping containers.

Mr. Trump’s temper tantrum costs us money in our pockets and respect around the world. Mr. Trump invented a danger to bully Congress into using our tax money to build his wall. Mr. Trump wants a wall to appease his base, who believe in this imaginary invasion. We citizens have a responsibility to keep his delusions in check.

Want a suggestion? Spend Mr. Trump’s wall money to better inspect shipping containers.

  • Adam Schiff will be compelled to testify should the Democrats decide, despite the fact that my presidential conversations were totally appropriate (perfect), to go forward with the Impeachment Hoax. Polls have now turned very strongly against Impeachment!

  • Despite all that has been revealed, Trump supporters have not been moved. Thus, there will be no conviction by the Senate. As a result, there will be no bounds or limits on the “office of the president” and President Trump in particular.

I do not understand how the population still believes the Constitution is anything other than an artifact. It depended upon “believers” on all sides. Power, or the thirst for it, has destroyed that belief.

No one will observe the Constitution, other than in worthless words. It was a great experiment.

Does anyone believe Trump will not repeat actions similar to this sellout to the Russians? Who will stop him?
