  • This afternoon, at a Tom Thumb station in Arlington, Texas, I paid $2.799 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. What're y'all payin' in your neck o' the woods?

  • To the editor:

For some reason that I cannot understand, everyone seems to have forgotten that the title of Justice Department special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report is, “Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.” (“Impeachment isn’t a criminal proceeding, it’s a political one,” Opinion, April 23)

Forget about collusion or conspiracy, and forget about obstruction of justice (President Trump almost certainly obstructed justice, based on a fair reading of the report). Mueller’s investigation has found, without question, that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in “sweeping and systematic fashion.”

What has Trump done about this? Practically nothing. For a while he wouldn’t even admit that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election for fear that it would diminish his “great electoral victory.”

Trump has failed to protect the United States from an obvious threat. For this alone, the president needs to be impeached.

  • ….Ever since Andrew came to my office to ask that I appoint him to the U.S. Supreme Court, and I said NO, he has been very hostile! Also asked for pardon for his friend. A good “pal” of low ratings Shepard Smith.

  • With respect, Joe Biden, please accept retirement with grace. You are the wrong gender, wrong age, and have the wrong history to be our president in these turbulent times [“Biden launches 2020 bid,” seattletimes.com, April 25].

Your presence also changes the nature of the presidential campaign from a positive one built on hope for new directions into a head-to-head contest between two old, white men.

President Donald Trump is a master at misdirection and telling lies. The winning Democratic candidate has to rise above that and not allow him/herself to engage in the playground battles Trump is so adept at creating.

Let the Republicans cling to old ideas and old ways of looking at the world. Let them tell themselves they are still relevant. Fortunately for the country, there is an entire generation of young, resourceful Democrats who have a chance to return this country to the ideals of the rule of law, to honor the Constitution and to reinstate the social norms of common decency and respect for our fellow beings.

Please, Mr. Biden, accept our collective gratitude for your life of service. Enjoy your years of retirement in good health. Why risk the shame of knowing you contributed to the reelection of Donald J. Trump?

  • Thank you for your thoughtful editorial regarding the threat that the Trump administration’s brazenly corrupt standards pose for our country (“Watching his back, Trump lets down our guard,” April 19). I would add a piece that I have not seen the Globe or any other news organization address, except as it touches on impeachment. The Republican Party itself has become so corrupted with Russian money and influence that its members no longer have the will to adhere to their own oaths of office, to uphold and defend the US Constitution.

Republican officeholders in the House and Senate have stood in the way of this investigation and demonstrated their loyalty to a corrupt president rather than to the country. If there were any integrity left to the GOP, this corruption could be over next week. There isn’t. Everyone who is complicit must be held accountable. Our democracy—our freedom—depends on it.
