  • Marc A. Thiessen’s March 23 op-ed “Democrats are the Biggest Threat to the Constitution” includes this statement: “The purpose of the Electoral College is to protect us from what James Madison called the tyranny of the majority.” What kind of sense does that make? Aren’t we supposed to be living in a democracy “of the people, by the people and for the people?”

What happened to majority rules? Isn’t that how most voting is done?

The Electoral College is an antique whose time has come to be eliminated. With voting results computerized and constantly beamed to every television station, the accumulated results are known instantaneously. By the time voting gets to the West Coast, the results are already clear. But wait, the popular vote was clearly in Hillary Clinton’s favor, but somehow, because of the quirks of the Electoral College setup, we are stuck with Donald Trump.

Everyone should get out and vote in every election. Every person’s vote counts—or does it?

Note from KBJ: The New York Yankees scored more runs than the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1960 World Series. Somehow, because of the quirks of the Major League Baseball setup, we are stuck with Pittsburgh as the winner.

  • This morning, at a Shell station in Arlington, Texas, I paid $2.599 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. With my Kroger card, it came to $2.499. What're y'all payin' in your neck o' the woods?
