Two days ago, in Fort Worth, Texas, Katherine and I watched Free Solo (2018) at a theater. The movie is a documentary about Alex Honnold's attempt to climb El Capitan without ropes or assistance. The movie is riveting. I've dreamt about it both nights and can't stop thinking about it. During the movie, I kept wiping my hands on my pants to keep them dry, as if doing so would help Honnold get a better grip. Without giving too much away, let me say that this is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It may be the best. I hope you get a chance to watch it.Here is the trailer.

“An Atrocity Too Far”

To the editor:
In her column reacting positively to the presidential candidacy of author and self-help icon Marianne Williamson, Robin Abcarian writes, “In a country that elected a uniquely unqualified man to the presidency in 2016, it’s no longer rational to dismiss a presidential candidate simply for lack of experience.”
Have we learned nothing from the experience of having a “uniquely unqualified man” as president? It is now more than ever supremely rational to require pertinent experience from our potential leaders.

With Caravans marching through Mexico and toward our Country, Republicans must be prepared to do whatever is necessary for STRONG Border Security. Dems do nothing. If there is no Wall, there is no Security. Human Trafficking, Drugs and Criminals of all dimensions – KEEP OUT!

The Jan. 24 “Breaking Bread” editorial should have been left on the editorial board’s floor. After my 80 plus years, I wonder how any person, president, congressman, senator or average citizen, could sit down with a man who has called others ugly names, who has walked out on them and who continuously has shown no respect for any person, male or female.
I was taught to pay attention to what message comes out of a person’s mouth. Do you remember when “tweets” were bird sounds—not presidential? Respect has to be earned; it does not come automatically with a title or a position.

Ed Gillespie, who ran for Governor of the Great State of Virginia against Ralph Northam, must now be thinking Malpractice and Dereliction of Duty with regard to his Opposition Research Staff. If they find that terrible picture before the election, he wins by 20 points!
