How does Da Nang Dick (Blumenthal) serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee when he defrauded the American people about his so called War Hero status in Vietnam, only to later admit, with tears pouring down his face, that he was never in Vietnam. An embarrassment to our Country!

Regarding “D.C. media’s anti-Trump bias amps up outrage” (Jan. 18): Citing all his many years of political journalism, Andrew Malcolm blames the divisive, contentious discord in our country on journalists and, specifically, liberal journalists. He demonstrates by equating President Trump’s constant lies, false accusations and inflated numbers as the president just being a jerk like all the presidents before him, because they didn’t keep campaign promises, so they are liars, too. Trump doesn’t care if the divisive and outrageous statements he makes are accurate. Us against them is exactly what he wants. Our division is his strength. Anger energizes his base, distracts attention from his crimes, cronyism, destructive policies and intellectual shortcomings. Bypassing journalists, Trump uses social media to disparage the mainstream media, leading his followers to believe only him, instead of the FBI, CIA, U.S. Department of Justice and all the mainstream media. Thankfully, most of the journalists in our mainstream media understand that calling out Trump’s lies is protecting the basis of our democracy. Using their investigative skills and diligence to details and facts, they risk the verbal assault of a powerful bully to let the public know that what he is telling them is not the truth.

Kant began to teach at the Albertina University in Königsberg in 1755, when he was thirty-one years old. He taught there for more than four decades, carrying what seems today an astonishingly heavy load. Usually he gave four or five courses each semester, meeting classes four or five hours a week. He taught logic, metaphysics, physical geography, anthropology, and many other subjects. (He even taught the rudiments of making fortifications to the officers of the Russian army that occupied Königsberg in the late 1750s.) Among his more frequent offerings were courses on ethics: He taught the subject in one form or another nearly thirty times.(J. B. Schneewind, introduction to Lectures on Ethics, by Immanuel Kant, ed. Peter Heath and J. B. Schneewind; trans. Peter Heath, The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Immanuel Kant, ed. Paul Guyer and Allen W. Wood [Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1997], xiii-xxvii, at xiii [endnote omitted])
Note from KBJ: Counting this semester's two courses, I have taught ethics 52 times.
