  • To the editor:

The Republican Party of yesteryear was known for its abhorrence of the Soviet Union and all things related to communism. Now the U.S. has a president and Republican leadership unwilling to protect us from Russian meddling in our elections.

President Trump is in the thrall of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and many Republicans are marching with the man who heads their party. It is stunning to see an American administration willing to stand back and allow Russian actors to tamper with our political system. Furthermore, according to our intelligence agencies, it is likely that the Russian government will try to disrupt the upcoming midterm election and the 2020 presidential race.

The American people are dependent solely on the Democratic Party to protect them from Russia. Whatever happened to the once-patriotic GOP?

  • In the editorial “The United States of Intolerance” (June 27), the PG criticizes the lack of civility and common courtesy in today’s society. The editorial cites examples of liberals and conservatives who, in previous administrations, managed to disagree without being disagreeable—people like Kennedy, Nixon, O’Neill and Reagan, who eschewed ad hominem attacks and, in some cases, even managed to enjoy each other’s company.

What, then, makes today’s atmosphere so vitriolic? Could it be we have a president who encourages and daily indulges in personal slanders, who enjoys creating disparaging and dehumanizing epithets for perceived enemies, and whose actions have shown him to be the most egregious abuser of civil discourse?

“Do we really want everything to be about politics and Donald Trump?”, the PG asks. We all know one person who most definitely does. Let’s hope he has only this term to continue this national nightmare.

  • Just won lawsuit filed by the DNC and a bunch of Democrat crazies trying to claim the Trump Campaign (and others), colluded with Russia. They haven’t figured out that this was an excuse for them losing the election!
