Here is a scene from today's stage of the Giro d'Italia. As incredible as it may seem, the overall leader, Danilo Di Luca, escaped near the end and soloed in for victory, thereby increasing his lead. Di Luca ("The Killer") covered the 162.8 miles in 6:30:43, which is an average speed of 25.00 miles per hour. Lance Armstrong rode well today and is now 18th overall, more than five minutes behind Di Luca. I understand that certain "fans" are critical of Armstrong for not contending for the overall victory. That's ridiculous. Even if he had not broken his collarbone a few weeks ago, he would not have contended for the overall victory. The man is making a comeback after more than three years off the bike! When you factor in the broken collarbone, the man is riding fabulously well. I expect him to be a contender in the Tour de France two months from now. Here is tomorrow's stage.

Addendum: I predict that Jens Voigt will win tomorrow's stage in a long breakaway.
