Great news from the Golden State! The California Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the recent amendment that defines "marriage" as the union of one man and one woman.

Addendum: The amendment reads as follows: "SEC. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Only two things can happen to change this. First, the people of the state can amend the California Constitution again, by repealing or modifying Section 7.5. Second, the United States Supreme Court can rule that the United States Constitution prohibits the limitation of marriage to heterosexual couples. Two things that cannot change it are (1) legislation and (2) a ruling by the California Supreme Court or any other state court.

Addendum 2: Here is the New York Times story about today's ruling. The reporter thinks that because more young people than old people support homosexual "marriage," things will change. Yes, things will change. Today's young people will become old people! As they mature, they will come to see that there are relevant differences between heterosexual couples and homosexual couples with respect to marriage. The fallacy is in thinking that people's views don't change as they age. Compare the following reasoning: "More children than adults prefer the Disney Channel to Fox News; therefore, the Disney Channel will eventually become more popular than Fox News."
