Roger Clegg points out that the beneficiaries of affirmative-action programs are also their victims. How can you feel good about yourself if you know that your position is due to your race or ethnicity rather than to your abilities? How must it feel to know that everyone you meet questions your competence? These are real costs of affirmative-action programs. Supporters of such programs either don't view these as costs or believe that the costs are outweighed by the benefits.
