I read the first 20 comments on this New York Times blog post about Michele Bachmann. The following words were used to describe Bachmann or her positions:
- lunatic
- dishonest
- perverse
- vanity
- welfare queen
- idiot (the writer used the term "shoe in," so who's the idiot?)
- crazy
- flake/nutjob
- dizzy/babbling
- disgrace/curse
These were the comments that were approved by the editors. Can you imagine what was said in the comments that were not approved? What's funny is that Bachmann is far more intelligent, articulate, and informed than these anonymous commenters. She's a former tax attorney who has a graduate law degree. She's a grown-up with grown-up views about the Constitution, public policy, and moral values.
The great unanswered questions are these: Why are progressives such haters? Why can't they engage in civil discourse? Why must they personalize every issue? Why do they spew their venom anonymously?
