  • Why is President Donald Trump sending a great naval armada to threaten North Korea? What is the sense of a policy that threatens a country that arms itself because it feels threatened?

Kim Jong Un may seem to be crazy, but he is not stupid, nor is he suicidal. If we want North Korea to be less hostile and to back off of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, the U.S. should be less hostile, not more so.

Our military moves exacerbate North Korean paranoia. That is counterproductive. The best policy is to lay off the saber rattling and give North Korea some assurance that we have no need nor any intention of attacking them.

  • Progressives believe, and never cease saying, that conservatives are anti-science. In my experience, it's progressives, not conservatives, who are anti-science. Think of all the scientific topics that are taboo for leftists: sex differences; racial disparities in IQ; investigations into the etiology of homosexuality; the long-term consequences of abortion on women who undergo them; which religions are the most violent; &c. And guess who politicized science, turning it into an arm of the state? Hint: It wasn't conservatives.

  • I got to wondering during today's bike ride how many hours I spent in the saddle in 2016, when I rode 6,288 miles. I estimate my average speed at 16.5 miles per hour. That makes 381.0 hours, or two weeks, one day, and 21 hours (out of 52 weeks). Nobody would put that much time into something without liking it. I love cycling.

  • I see that CNN is still covering the Russia-Trump story, even though there isn't a shred of evidence that Russia had any effect on anyone's vote. CNN is like a heroin addict. Once it gets hooked on a story, it can't let go. Remember the Malaysian airliner? Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Someone at CNN must have decided that this story, like the airliner story, is a moneymaker, and maybe it is. But let's not think for a moment that there is any journalistic value in it. The story has only propaganda value, and only for paranoid leftists who still don't understand why Donald Trump won the 2016 election. (Hint: It has nothing to do with Russia and everything to do with the sheer ineptitude, aloofness, and criminality of the Democrat candidate.)
