  • Up until the recent release of the Mueller report, I think most of us knew the Republican Party breaks the rules in order to stay in power.

For those in doubt, just take note of the overt attempts by this party to suppress voter rights, jam through two Supreme Court confirmations and gerrymander electoral districts, among other things. And these underhanded attempts are not just historical, they continue to today. However, the Mueller report has exposed how fervently desperate the Republican Party has become and that it will do whatever it takes to keep the majority.

President Donald Trump can boast about “no collusion” and his self-proclaimed exoneration, aided by his attorney general, William Barr, but the Mueller report clearly illustrates that Mr. Trump welcomed the assistance of a foreign government to help him win the 2016 election.

Let us try to digest this for a moment. Russia, a country that wants to destroy our democracy and undermined our electoral process, made efforts that were encouraged by Mr. Trump and his campaign to help them win the 2016 presidential election.

Make no bones about it, this is as serious as it sounds. The Mueller report is the first beacon of truth that we all, as Americans, should take vital notice of. To put winning above protecting our country is dangerous at best, but it even treads on being treasonous.

  • To the editor:

All the legal scholars are analyzing ad infinitum, Republicans are gloating and spinning, Democrats are wailing, and Justice Department special counsel Robert S. Mueller III can now pack up and go home. (“Full coverage: Robert Mueller finishes his investigation into President Trump’s 2016 campaign”)

I, for one, have always considered this an expensive exercise in futility. President Trump was found to be a liar and an insensitive influence-peddler surrounded by loyalists and sycophants who did his bidding most of the time.

This is a bit underwhelming, considering the time, money and effort that has gone into this investigation.

Note from KBJ: To this day, I am unaware of a single Trump lie. What in the world is Bette Mason talking about? Does she have any idea what a lie is? Maybe “Trump is a liar” just means (to her) “Trump does things of which I disapprove,” or even “I hate Trump.”
