  • Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, who gave two months of honest, thoughtful and constructively-inspired notice of his resignation, was instead told to clean out his desk immediately by President Trump (“Mattis will depart Jan. 1, deputy will be secretary,” Dec. 23). The president, apparently unconcerned about whatever turmoil his petulant actions cause here, has once again (and again and again and again) made the issue of Mattis' resignation all about himself. While Mattis respectfully implied that the president would be better served by someone more in line with his own thinking, Mr. Trump figured otherwise, decided he was being publicly insulted, and heedless of thrusting the defense establishment into upheaval, acted like a child seeking simplistic revenge.

Our president, who is blatantly narcissistic, continues to let this behavior guide his thinking and subsequent actions. Combined with his continuous fact-mauling outbursts and his disturbing disregard for detailed information, we have had a commander-in-chief for two years now who exhibits little interest and ability in responsible governance and who shows absolutely no proclivity towards ever "growing into the job."

  • “Border Patrol Agents want the Wall.” Democrat’s say they don’t want the Wall (even though they know it is really needed), and they don’t want ICE. They don’t have much to campaign on, do they? An Open Southern Border and the large scale crime that comes with such stupidity!

  • Defense Secretary James Mattis, who had planned on retiring from his position in February, was instead fired by President Trump due to, among other things, disagreements regarding the removal of the 2,000 U.S. troops in Syria.

Trump insists that the Islamic State has been defeated there, while Mattis, and several other high-ranking military officials, believe the opposite. The only high-ranking military man in agreement with Trump is Russian President Vladimir Putin, who feels that we shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

It appears Trump Towers, the Moscow edition, is right on schedule.

  • The Road Warrior (1981)A few days ago, Katherine and I watched the second film in the Max Max franchise: The Road Warrior (1981). The production values of this film were much better than those of the first. The back of the DVD says that Road Warrior (a.k.a. Mad Max 2) is “one of the most mind-blowing stunt movies ever made,” and I would have to agree. I wonder how many people were injured during the filming. If you like dialogue or complicated plots, this is not the movie for you. But if you like pure escapism and non-stop action, you’ll like this one.

    Here is the trailer.

Here is the first page of a scholarly article about the first two Mad Max movies:

I must confess, I noticed the gay motifs as well.
