As the old saying goes, “caveat emptor,” or “let the buyer beware.”
Buyers have been made wary by our deal-breaking president, and they are understandably shopping elsewhere. When no promise is kept, and no good faith demonstrated, the world is looking elsewhere for quality and fair prices, complete with guarantees that supply chains need to produce their own products. Buy a used car from Donald Trump? No chance; the odometer has been tampered with, the accident record erased, and buyers go elsewhere.
American commerce is going to be the Titanic with Capt. Trump saying, “Full speed ahead. The icebergs are fake.” Illinois manufacturing is starting to feel the rumble, and farmers are seeing soybean prices fall. The horn is blowing “danger,” but the captain keeps ignoring it.
There needs to be a reckoning in Congress before the wreckage is too much, too soon.
