  • To the editor:

Given the arbitrary nature of President Trump’s trade policy, or lack thereof, Congress should try to temper the effects of his capricious decisions. But is anyone really sure what his plans are?

I am under the impression that our “trade war” with China was put on hold—how thoughtful of Trump—but now we hear that the president is slapping tariffs on certain imports from Europe, Canada and Mexico. Is Trump trying to isolate our country economically?

I don't understand what Trump is up to, and I doubt our members of Congress do either. That’s not their fault, as Trump seems to be making this up as he goes along. I don't even think his staff knows what his next decision will be.

Trump is rolling the dice with global economics. Members of Congress need to do something before major sectors of our economy are damaged for the long term.

  • As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong? In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!

  • I confess to being more than a little confused by President Donald Trump’s comment, “You’ve been through a lot. More than most people could endure,” in reference to newly released American Joshua Holt from a Venezuelan jail.

While taking nothing from Holt’s experience, I am appalled by Trump’s callous attitude and cavalier remarks that have been a steady drumbeat, over the last several years, when commenting on Sen. John McCain’s 5 ½ years as a prisoner of war, and brutal torture, in Hanoi.

We are firmly in Orwellian lands, with doublethink and Newspeak the new normal. Next stop, the Twilight Zone.

  • When you’re almost 800 Billion Dollars a year down on Trade, you can’t lose a Trade War! The U.S. has been ripped off by other countries for years on Trade, time to get smart!

  • There has been a rumor, and I use that term freely, that Donald Trump may win the Nobel Peace Prize if he achieves his mission of getting North Korea to disarm itself of nuclear arms. Really, now, Mr. Trump, our president, the other half of the two boys on the playground who keep one-upping each other? Someone somewhere had a mental vacation for a split second and let this beyond-logic thought escape into the wild world of mass communication.

Mr. Trump win the Nobel Prize for his sixth-grade antics of “my button is bigger than yours”? Then he said about the scheduled summit: Forget it, I am not coming, you are not being nice, you are cheating and not making arrangements that I want. And the latest: As of Friday afternoon, the summit is back on.

The real winner must be the president of South Korea. He has been meeting with the North Korean dictator since January, and there has been no known playground taunting. They seem to act toward each other as two adult men in very important positions.

Mr. Trump did not get North Korea to tear down the nuclear site—South Korea did. Donald Trump + Nobel Prize is a very illogical expression.
