Here are some distinctions that are relevant to the permissibility of Roy Moore's behavior:
- Dating, courtship, sex, and marriage.
- Sex and rape.
- Rape and statutory rape.
- Law, custom, and morality.
- What the law is and what the law should be.
- What the law was and what the law is.
- What the moral norms are and what the moral norms should be.
- What the moral norms were and what the moral norms are.
- Whether moral norms are absolute or defeasible.
- Whether moral norms are universal or relative (to times, places, &c.).
By the way, I wrote the book (literally) on rape. Two of them, actually, plus many articles in prominent philosophical publications.

Here is what passes for discourse in the 21st Century:
- Find something on the Internet that you feel strongly about;
- Distort the author's meaning so as to make the author look stupid, ignorant, or vicious (call this the Principle of Anti-Charity in Interpretation);
- Try to get the author fired (thereby signaling one's virtue and power).
It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

I was dismayed and shocked to read your recent editorial regarding maintaining one’s blood pressure when Trump rants. This is a person who is unqualified to be president of the United States, regardless of how he made it to that position. He is inept, incompetent, dangerous and totally unfit. Sadly, you can wait and focus on whether he does his job as president, but it will never happen. He is not going to promote peace, increase “real” national security, or fix health care. He is a self-serving narcissist willing to cut all ties with former world allies and spark controversies that have real consequences.
I am surprised that you gloss over his “outbursts” as expressions of his shortcomings when he has shown during his entire adult life that he has no higher level of interaction or expression. He is vindictive and, unfortunately, does not possess the intellect, the talents, the personality, nor the abilities to either understand the responsibilities of the presidency or ever effectively shoulder them.

The jury was not told the killer of Kate was a 7 time felon. The Schumer/Pelosi Democrats are so weak on Crime that they will pay a big price in the 2018 and 2020 Elections.

What part of "personal blog" does this moron not understand? There is no mention of my place of employment on my blog. Furthermore, I explicitly say, in the "About" section, that "The views expressed in this blog are not necessarily shared by others at my university (which is legalese for 'I speak only for myself')." My blogging has no more to do with my employment than does my cycling, my guitar playing, my television viewing, my recreational reading, or my voting. This isn't journalism; it's political assassination. Thank goodness my university understands this.
