  • Trek Domane 5.2Today's 36.8-mile ride (average speed: 17.05 miles per hour) gave me another great month on the bike. The temperature today ranged from 64º to 72º, with sunny skies and a light wind. What a joy it is to be outside, exerting, in such glorious conditions! This past Friday, by contrast, the wind chill was 43º both when I left the house and when I returned, three hours later. I ride all year 'round, no matter what the weather. It's good to be hardy. Today's ride gives me 544 miles for October and 4,672.6 for the year. I've revised my goal upward, to 6,000 miles for 2017. If I achieve it (and you know I will), I will have  pedaled 6,000 miles during the year in which I turned 60.

  • The Democrats won in 2016. Sure, their candidate, Hillary Clinton, lost, but time has demonstrated that they won. The Republican party is in shambles and is divided against itself. Some are ashamed enough of their party that they are either not pursuing reelection or are publicly denouncing its leader.

If Hillary had won, the Republicans would be united and strong in having an enemy to rally against. With Trump, they have an enemy within who is tearing their party apart, not to mention what it is doing to the country.

His total lack of humility, maturity, and self-consciousness make the hubris of Obama look like the meekness of Mother Teresa.

Yes, the Democrats won in 2016. It was just delayed until 2020.

  • Report out that Obama Campaign paid $972,000 to Fusion GPS. The firm also got $12,400,000 (really?) from DNC. Nobody knows who OK'd!

  • This afternoon, at a Shell station in Fort Worth, Texas, I paid $2.279 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. With my Kroger card, it came to $2.179. What're y'all payin' in your neck o' the woods?

  • It is really mind-boggling to think that so many people who live right here in our glorious Pennsylvania were actually responsible for the triumph of our current president. I feel ashamed knowing that people I see and pass put the future of our country into this mayhem.

No matter how much you were disgusted with Washington or hated Hillary Clinton (for whatever reason), casting a vote for this simple-minded bully was not the answer.

A lot of us tried to see reason in your choice, benefit of the doubt, a vote against the establishment, even just reality TV junkies forgetting it is just staged persuasion. It is time to quit making excuses for all of you. Your reckless choice has turned us into a hateful society with a scoundrel at its helm.

To continue to give all of you a pass is absurd and as immoral as enabling an addict without trying to help him.

The releasing of more of the classified Kennedy assassination files really stirred my emotions. It tugged at my heart to remember how different we were then—the general feeling of well-being, pride in and love for our country and admiration for our president. The world envied us. Red and Blue were at odds but respectfully so, appreciating the differences.

I am saddened to see how far we have fallen, perplexed at the voters who denied my grandchildren that gratification, and troubled that our country will never be the same.
