To the Editor:
While William Kennard and Michael Powell warn of the “train wreck” that will ensue if millions of people with analog TV sets temporarily go without television, there has been plenty of time to prepare for the switch mandated by the Digital Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005.
I haven’t owned a TV in 10 years, so I won’t be in any “danger” or get caught up in a “fiasco,” but I would venture to say that some time without television—while one waits for a converter box coupon, for example—might foster some reading or even daydreaming, inexpensive, relatively green, and I dare say, more productive alternatives to television.
In these troubled times, surely there are more important things to which Congress and our next president can direct their attention and taxpayer money.

Note from KBJ: In my experience, the biggest snobs are those who don't have televisions and love telling others that they don't have televisions.
