Congratulations to Derek Jeter for becoming the newest member of the 3,000-hit club. He got the hit (a home run) in style, as one of five hits in the game. I gave Jeter grief for "cheating" a year or so ago, but I have always admired and respected him for the way he plays the game. Unlike his teammate A-Roid, he is a class act.

Addendum: Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez has 2,842 hits. Do you think he'll reach 3,000? I hope he does, though it's not essential in order for him to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Pudge is in his 21st Major League season. If he plays one more season after this one, he should make it. Perhaps I should ask Mike Henderson, for whose team (the Washington Nationals) Pudge plays. Will he make it, Mike?
